Impresario

/ˌimprəˈsärēˌō/

A person who organizes and often finances concerts, plays or operas; analogous to an artist manager or a film or television producer. (Taken from the Wikipedia article.)

I had heard this word before – in a Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire movie (I’ll have to talk more about Fred Astaire later), when someone (perhaps ironically) says something to the Fred Astaire character about, “your impresario, Mr. Baird.” I never actually bothered to look up the word until yesterday when my Fine Arts class discussed film. (The film is Shall We Dance, Astaire and Rogers’ seventh film together, and the first of their films that I saw.)
